Dog Training Terms and Conditions
The following terms and conditions are in place to ensure the smooth and safe running of all training sessions, including all individual and group training sessions. It is important that you (the client) read, understand and agree to these terms and conditions in full. Please ask your trainer (Dr Julia Taylor) for clarification if there is anything you do not understand.
All bookings with Julia Taylor (Bespoke Dog Training), either pending or confirmed, are subject to these terms and conditions.
General:
- As living creatures, the behaviour of dogs is influenced by and can change due to a wide range of factors. While desired training outcomes will be discussed, and all recommendations will be tailored with the view of achieving a realistic outcome, training and behavioural outcomes cannot be guaranteed.
- Your participation in any training sessions is entirely at your own risk. You accept that there are risks involved in working with animals, including but not limited to injury to yourself, to other people, to your own dog and to other animals.
- As your dog’s handler, you must keep your dog under control at all times. Your safety, your dog’s safety and the safety of other participants are your responsibility.
- You must act responsibly and sensibly at all times during training sessions.
- If you own multiple dogs and want them to participate in training sessions, one handler must be available for each dog.
- All attendees and dog handlers must be sober and mentally and physically capable of managing the dog(s) they are handling.
- Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
- You must follow any safety warning or instruction given to you by your dog trainer or contained in the course material. Please ask your trainer if any instructions are unclear.
- You are responsible for using any equipment as directed in person or in the training materials provided. You must behave sensibly, use the equipment as intended and follow any safety instructions so as not to hurt or injure yourself, other people, your dog, or other animals.
- The training methods we use are kind and ethical; aversive methods such as choke chains, prong collars, or electric shock collars are not supported. Harsh handling during training sessions will also not be tolerated.
- Training plans (if applicable) and training advice are targeted to a particular handler/dog combination and should not be shared with others; they should not be implemented by other individuals and/or with other animals.
Client Disclosure and Honesty:
- By engaging with dog training services offered by Julia Taylor (Bespoke Dog Training), you agree that all information provided in relation to your dog’s behaviour, history, and relevant circumstances is truthful, accurate and complete to the best of your knowledge.
- By agreeing to these terms and conditions, you acknowledge that withholding, misrepresenting, or failing to disclose pertinent information, such as previous aggression, medical conditions, or behavioural concerns, may pose a significant risk to the safety of your trainer, your own safety, the safety of your animal and others.
- Under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, all animal owners and keepers have a legal duty of care to ensure the welfare of their animals and to prevent harm to others. The Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 and related legislation impose additional responsibilities to prevent a dog from being dangerously out of control.
- Failure to provide full and honest disclosure may result in the immediate termination of services without refund, and Julia Taylor shall not be held liable for any consequences arising from such omissions. You accept full responsibility for any legal repercussions that may arise from undisclosed behavioural issues or other relevant factors.
1-2-1 Sessions:
- During home visits, please ensure that the dog is contained in the house in a room away from the entrance when the trainer arrives. Your trainer will advise you when and how to introduce the dog.
Workshops, Group Classes, and Trailing Sessions:
- Dogs must be kept under the handler’s control and on a lead at all times, unless specifically instructed otherwise by the trainer. You are responsible for the conduct of your dog at all times.
- When arriving at classes or workshops, please avoid meeting the other dogs on lead. Not all dogs like to be near other dogs when restrained on a lead. Do not crowd any doorways or gates, and allow plenty of room for other dogs to enter and exit.
- Please be a responsible dog owner and always clean up after your dog. Take home or properly dispose of, all used poo bags.
- The welfare and safety of all dogs are paramount to us. Dogs in an unfit state of health due to illness, disease or injury cannot be brought to class. Do not bring your dog to class if they have been in contact with an infectious disease, such as kennel cough or conjunctivitis.
- Equally, bitches in season should not be brought to group training classes, workshops or trailing sessions.
- Trailing sessions may be held outdoors, and terrain may be uneven and slippery in places. Our training involves practical handling; therefore, appropriate footwear and clothing are recommended. Please wear comfortable and flat footwear for safety reasons, as you will be moving about. You may be required during training to get down on the ground; therefore, suitable attire is recommended.
- Insufficient numbers booked onto a course or workshop may result in the course or workshop being postponed or cancelled. In this instance, you will be notified of future course dates or offered private tuition. If this is not acceptable, a full refund will be given.
Health and Safety:
- The welfare of the animals and the safety of all participants are our top priority, and all breaches of the Animal Welfare Act (2006) will be dealt with accordingly.
- You understand that, under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, you have a legal duty of care to ensure the welfare of your dog and to prevent harm to others.
- Particularly in the case of dogs with a bite history or known behavioural issues, suitable precautions (such as use of a muzzle or other management tools) must be implemented as advised.
- All dogs participating in dog training must be fully vaccinated.
- We are unable to work with dogs of breeds covered by the Dangerous Dogs Act (DDA 1991), as this is not covered by our insurance.
Booking, Payments and Cancellations:
- A quote for the agreed training session(s) is given at the time of booking.
- All quoted fees must be paid before the first session commences.
- Cancellations must be made up to 2 days before the agreed session. If the cancellation is within 48 hours of the agreed session, the full fee for the session is due.
- If the client misses a class or session, no refund will be issued.
- In the event that the trainer has to cancel a session due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g. adverse weather, illness, or emergency), every effort will be made to reschedule your session to another mutually convenient time. If this is not possible, we will refund you for the cost of the session.
